Most Thoughtful Presents for Pregnant Women
~ make her feel special ~
Ican't tell you how many times I have googled "best presents for pregnant woman" over the last 5 years. A few of my friends had children straight out of high school, and without really knowing what our friends would want, we would either gift flowers or something cute for the baby.
But I'm now in my thirties, have had a child of my own, and I can't tell you how much I wish I could go back and reselect my presents.
Whether you're looking for a gift to give the mum-to-be just after she's told you she's peed on the pregnancy test, after she's announced her pregnancy at 3 months or you're looking for a gift for when she's further down the track - I think that presents for for a pregnant woman should be all about her.
WHY SHOULD THE GIFT BE ABOUT THE WOMAN?
1. The journey to getting pregnant isn't easy. She deserves something for however hard or easy it was for her to start growing another human inside her.
2. I can't speak for every woman, but the first 3 - 4 months weren't easy for me. I was so sick, tired, moody and entirely wiped out for that whole first trimester... So another congratulations is deserved here.
3. Sharing your body with another human is a challenge. They can experience anything from stretch marks, hair changes, skin changes, they need to pee all the time and then her body has to move major parts inside to make space for a baby the size of a watermelon. Not to mention she then needs to get that out.
4. As much fun as it is shopping for a baby, I for one know just how cute all the clothes and little toys can be... but from the moment the baby is out everything is about the baby and she is almost pushed aside. Save the cute clothes for the birth and many birthdays to come!
Gifts for pregnant women should be about them, making them feel good and comfortable & thought about.
TOP LIST OF 13 GIFT IDEAS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
THE PREGNANCY PILLOW
This was the greatest gift I received when I announced my pregnancy at 3 months. I had no idea what it was when it arrived, but let me tell you my husband had to tear it out of my hands after the birth of Maeve. Goodbye uncomfortable sleep and hello to sleeping in the clouds!!
I stopped sleeping on my side from around 12 weeks and started using my pregnancy pillow from around 15 weeks when I was conscious about my bump.
Yes it does take up a lot of the bed, but I haven't felt bad about squishing my husband against the wall for one minute. The comfort far outweighs any complaining from your other half!!
There are so many different options on the market now so I've listed a few different types along with the one I have used and love.
Grandma Shark Pregnancy Pillow
This was the one that I was gifted so is the pregnancy pillow that I can personally recommend. It's important you look for one that has a removable cover so that it can be washed regularly like a normal pillow case.
I particularly liked the double side of the pillow so I could turn over easily in the night, and the grooved shape felt like it was tailor made for me.
Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow
This is designed specifically to encourage pregnant women to sleep on their left side which is the side recommended by health care professionals. This one is a smaller size so won't take up as much of the bed, and also more discreet if she would like a tidy room and put it away if she has people over.
It's won a tonne of awards and also doubles up as a feeding pillow if that's something you think she would want to factor in.
Full Moon 7-in-1 Pregnancy & Nursing System
I seriously considered this 7-in-1 pillow before I was gifted one from a friend. I loved that it had so many functions and that they are transparent about where and how it's made.
It's a Pregnancy Pillow, Nursing Nest for Breastfeeding Lying Down, Upright Feeding Pillow, Full Moon Cocoon, Eclipse Nursing Privacy Cover, Tummy Time Pillow and Baby Lounger
The reviews are incredible and seems they have an excellent customer service team as well.
PAMPERING BODY BALM GIFT SETS
You really can't have enough creams during pregnancy. I lathered myself up after every shower (boobs, tummy & hips) to try and prepare my skin for all the stretching it was going to do. I think it's something that I did for the physical growing part, but also mentally to rub my belly each morning and feel like we were getting ready to evolve together.
There are so many on the market, these are just the ones I personally used and recommend.
Mother Organic Collection
This set from Neals Yard comes with a balm, a bath oil and massage cream.
The balm was my best friend and it's clinically proven to increase skin's firmness and elasticity. So I started with these even before my belly had popped. It also says it improves the appearance of stretch marks so I used it for around a month after birth too.
The bath & massage oil make great presents for a pregnant woman as she heads into her third trimester relaxation is definitely needed. Very luxurious & relaxing products for her to have!
Clarins Tonic Treatment Oil - Firming/Toning
This was a gift from a good friend and apparently has been a top pregnancy product for 55 years! It's made from 100% pure plant extracts which help tone, firm and improve appearance of stretch marks.
It's also extremely hydrating and feels lovely when put on the skin. I found a little bit of this went a long way as well!
Mama Mio Bloomin Lovely
This set really ticks all of the boxes! It has Tummy Rub Butter, Lucky Legs, Boob Tube and Megamama Shower Milk.
Their tummy rub butter is incredible and feels & smells so nice on the skin. I really suffered with itchy legs during pregnancy and the Lucky Legs was a go-to product for me. My boobs also grew at an incredible rate and the Boob Tube was a really nice relief and addition to my daily ritual.
HERBAL TEA SETS
One thing that really caught me by surprise was how much I missed coffee! I only ever had 2 a day but not being able to have that second cup really took some adjusting. During pregnancy was the first time I started to taste herbal teas, and herbal tea sets I think are are great gift idea for pregnant women. Here's a few that include a tea pot and some teas for her to try.
Teapot for One Flowering Tea Set
This unique teapot for one set is made from borosilicate glass - which means it's high quality and thermal shock resistant. It also means it's dishwasher safe which she will thank you for once she's had the baby and everything will be thrown in there!
You can choose from 13 different options of tea to add to the set and it comes packaged in a handmade mulberry paper gift box. You can also have it gift wrapped and a personalised greeting card.
T2 - Me Time Moments
This has a gorgeous bone china tea pot which is perfect for her to enjoy some relaxation before the baby comes.
It comes with 4 of their most popular teas and I would have been thrilled to receive this gift when I was pregnant!
Camellia White Tea for One Teapot
A teapot for one that just oozes luxury - perfect for the ultimate tea lover!!
It features gold gilding and was inspired by the original hand-painted wallpaper in the Drawing Room at Fortum & Masons.
It isn't dishwasher friendly, but I don't think anyone would be brave enough to let this out of their sight anyway! .
I bought a pair of slippers when I was pregnant, and I am pretty sure that I have worn them every day since. Once she gets into her third trimester and gets heavier, these will be a go to item for her. Also, with a young one she will spend more time at home initially so she will love you for this. Presents for pregnant woman.
Emu Mayberry Teddy Slippers
These look like walk on cloud in a faraway kingdom. They are Woolmark certified Australian Marino sheepskin slippers so the quality will last her a long time.
They've got a gripped bottom which is essential so she doesn't slip over when she's pregnant or with a newborn.
Such a lovely gift idea for a pregnant woman!
Suede Mule Slippers
These just look like the one of the most inviting slippers I have seen. They remind me of happy days with a young baby in my arms, wandering round the home as a new mum.
The upper is real suede, they're lined in faux-fur and have rubber soles.
GUCCI Fria shearling-lined leather slippers
I mean... Do these even need a description written for them? They're everything I could ever want in a slipper!
They are perfect for lounging at home, but she can also wear them outdoors and still look glamorous.
They have the iconic horsebit hardware on the top and I am pretty sure would go with everything in my wardrobe!
No word of a lie, I am sitting here writing this in a dressing gown I bought whilst I was pregnant. I pretty much live in them most morning and night time as they're so easy to throw on if I am woken early by Maeve. This present for pregnant is also perfect because they can wear it during pregnancy and beyond. You need to opt for a good quality one though that washes well and also doesn't ruin in the wash.
M&S Fleece Dressing Gown
I haven't personally owned or worn this, but I have heard so many good things about it.
It is quite long which I would love, nothing worse than a dressing gown that barely covers your bum.
Also it has a hood and POCKETS!! Looks like a great present for a pregnant woman to me.
Soho Home House Robe
I would go as far to say as this is the best dressing gown I have ever felt or owned (and am currently wearing). When I bought it 3+ years ago it only came in 1 colour but they have 5 colours now. It's almost made from recycled polyester which gets a huge tick of approval from me.
It's incredibly soft and the size is lovely and oversized. The only negative thing is that there are no pockets, As a mum pockets are a god send, but I still love it and highly recommend it.
La Perla Silk Robe
If silk is more her thing, then this robe looks every little bit of beauty. The fit looks great and I love how long it falls.
It's dreamy look is created from 100% silk and will be perfect for all the pictures she will take with her new baby in hand.
They have also made it an ideal gift for a pregnant women with adding pockets.
HOME EXERCISE ACCESSORIES
If the lady you know enjoys exercising, some workout accessories to use at home could be great present idea. She may not always feel up to going to the gym or out for a run. Plus, when a newborn baby comes you generally find you can only do things during their short naps - so when I was pregnant I bought a couple of items and I was so glad I did. Here are some ideas of some things she might like, and will also make her feel like she's still able to workout and feel good.
Bala Resistance Bands, Set of 5
Resistance bands are amazing because you don't need a whole set of whole weights to do some resistance training.
I personally prefer a loop band as I feel there's a lot more you can do with it while you're pregnant. Having varied strength bands is also key as she will most likely be winding down her fitness as the due date creeps closer.
Lulu Lemon Lift and Lengthen Yoga Block
A great present for a pregnant woman who loves yoga is a yoga block. As her belly grows she won't have a full range of movement like she used to.
Having a yoga block on hand to use at home or the gym will mean she can keep practising throughout her pregnancy.
These are widely available but I just loved the colours of this Lulu Lemon one.
RIP X Dumbbell Weights Set Kit
I am writing this post 1 year of lockdown in London, so the options are extremely limited in what was available online.
When looking for a weight set it will depend on how strong the pregnant woman is, but you generally want to have a variety of weights included.
This is a fairly light set with weights including 0.5kg, 1kg, 1.5kg and 2kg. For someone who is more regular at the gym you would want the set to include some 4 and 5kg dumbells as well.
I've always been a massive fan of scented candles and used to light one every night, However with a baby, especially when it starts to crawl at around 6 months, I rarely get a chance to light them anymore.
I definitely made sure that during my pregnancy I was indulging in my favourite scents. Here's a few of my favourite in the UK.
House of Scandal - Velvet Peony & Oud.
This is a small business in London and I just love all of their scents. They don't just smell delicious though, they're all made from soy wax which is a lot safer for pregnant women and kids. It's also much better for the environment than paraffin and other waxes.
There are loads of gorgeous scents to choose from, but this is one of my favourites.
Seychelles Signature Candle
This has long been one of my favourite scents from The White Company. I find that some of their scents can be quite weak but I really enjoy the aroma of this candle.
It's available in small tea light candle sizes, or the large size which has 3 wicks.
Glass House Candles - A TAHAA AFFAIR
My favourite EVER candle. I do like a sweet and strong scent and I kid you not just having this candle unlit in a room makes the room smell amazing.
It's a mix of coconut, caramel and vanilla, and I would bathe in this candle if I could. It's a soy candle which is a big must for pregnant women and kids.
The only downfall is it's an Australian company and I am yet to find them stocked in the UK.
After the 3 month milestone pregnant women can generally get treatments at the day spa again. The treatments usually need to be altered in terms of products that are used, or if it's a massage than the qualified therapist will perform a massage that is safe for pregnancy.
If I was asked what I wanted as a present throughout my pregnancy I asked for a treatment voucher. Carrying a baby isn't easy on your skin as your hormones are all over the place, and I can't begin to tell you the back pain that comes along with it. So if you're looking for a present for a pregnant woman that she is guaranteed to love, than a spa treatment is the answer!
Cowshed by Soho House
Cowshed has various locations all over the country, some are members only but there are some that will take non-members.
They have a menu dedicated to pregnancy massages, as well as the regular facial treatments (just speak to someone and let them know you are pregnant before you book).
Pennyhill Park Spa
I can probably say I have been to this hotel & spa over 5 times. It's spa facilities are absolutely incredible - you could easily spend 2 days here using all the different areas and pools. My husband's favourite parts are the frozen immersion pool and the music that is played underwater in the indoor pool. I LOVE the treatments and spas.
The hotel itself is also stunning, and it has a Michelin star restaurant if they want to pop on their heels at night.
ESPA Life at Corinthia
If a London location is something you think she would like, the this hotel spa is as luxurious as it gets.
It is one of the largest in terms of treatment rooms I have been to, and I got lost several times. The service is absolutely 5 star and they had to drag me out as it was closing.
A treatment doesn't grant you access to the facilities so you you need to book a package or be staying as a hotel guest.
HOME FACE MASK
There is such thing as the "pregnancy glow" when your skin looks so radiant because all the hormones are happily playing... However that's only for a period of time, and the rest of that time hormones aren't kind to the appearance of a pregnant woman's skin.
Because of hormonal changes and increased blood flow, her skin may become more sensitive to chemicals and toxins that it's routinely exposed to. Therefore face masks need to be chosen carefully to make sure they don't contain any ingredients that are dangerous to her and the baby.
As much as I would've loved a facial every 2 weeks, that just wasn't possible so home face masks are the next best thing. A very considerate gift idea for a pregnant woman.
*always check any products before using, this is simply a guide and should no way replace professional information or guidance.
111SKIN Anti Blemish Bio Cellulose Facial Mask x 5
Oh my god do I love these face masks. They are probably the only face mask I have ever used, where I get compliments the following morning about how glowing my skin looks. It is hard to ever use another face mask again after using these products.
They have quite a few different face mask products, as well as gift sets. This particular mask is great for during pregnancy as it brightens and freshens, as well as hydrates skin. It's the dream gift for pregnant women.
The price is only for 1 mask, but I treat them like a facial at a day spa!
Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask
This lavish face mask is said to detoxify and brightening in only ten minutes. It's secret ingredient is Australian pink clay, which draws out impurities, toxins and pollutants from the skin unlike anything else, refining pores and deeply cleansing as it goes.
Other ingredients that invigorate and brighten skin include organic liquorice and old man’s weed. There are no nasties in it, and it's not tested on animals.
Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask
If you haven't hear of Tata Harper yet, just head over to google and you will see the entire internet loves them, as well as beauty editors, award panellists and celebrities.
This is one product I WISH was bought for me while I was pregnant as my skin suffered from blemishes and dehydration.
it's won countless awards, it's vegan and pretty much is the god send to pregnancy skin. Just try and buy one for someone else, without adding an additional one to the cart for yourself!
COMFORTABLE & COSY BED SOCKS
I genuinely don't think a woman can have too many high-quality bed socks. They never go out of fashion and can be worn all year round.
A common occurrence during pregnancy is feet swelling, and definitely into the third trimester you can feel the pressure of the extra weight you're carrying.
There's nothing more relieving than to kick off your shoes at the end of the day, and put on a clean pair of bed socks with your feet up high. A nice warm hug to the platforms that are carrying not only her but another human.
Birkenstock Cable Knit Socks
These stunning socks feature a 3D knitted plaid pattern and a Birkenstock logo on the shaft.
They come in two lovely colours and are pretty much what I think sums up the perfect bed sock. Simple colour, great design, a wool mix knit and also can be worn with their favourite pair of Birkenstocks if they own a pair!
Wool & Cashmere Blend Grey Knitted Bed Socks
These knitted socks look just as cosy as they do cute. Their tonal colours mean that they can also be worn out of the house on cooler days.
These socks should be a staple item in every woman's wardrobe.
Soho Home Cashmere Bed Socks
Comfort at it's finest in these sumptuous socks that feel like they were made for royalty.
They're made in Scotland and are 100% cashmere.
Her feet are going to be carrying the load of her baby, so they too will thank you for this present.
SWEET TREATS HAMPER
While she may not be able to drink a whole bottle of bubbles anymore, but she can indulge in chocolates and treats. This sweet gift for a pregnant woman is likely to be a huge hit, because yes flowers are great but this will last a lot longer than a week.
