Halloween Cooking:
Mummy Margarita Coffins

Recipes for Kids - Halloween Baking Recipes - Mother and Daughter Matching Outfits

This year I decided to get into the halloween spirit a little more, but in our own way. I am trying to be mindful of not buying decorations that will only be used for a few days before they are discarded into the rubbish, encouraging companies to keep making throw away items and being detrimental to our environment.

That includes buying any dress ups and also any styling items that we used to shoot this content. We used only things we could use again or eat!

Also I wanted to make these recipes as easy and as healthy as possible. I don't mind Maeve having treats but I want them to not have loads of butter, refined sugars and other nasties.

This is great for family friendly recipes as well as lunch ideas for kids. It's not limited to just halloween and so easy to make that it's already becoming one of our go-to recipes when I haven't prepared a meal. Just add a side of veg and you've made a meal that will have your little ones excited to eat it!!

Sensory Experience - Cooking with Kids

We are a boutique fashion label creating mum and daughter matching outfits, and we want to show you how baking with kids, and also cooking with kids can be fun and a great sensory experience for them.

Recipes for kids we think are perfect if they can get involved and touch, feel and smell the ingredients.

This is a super easy recipe and a bit of a creative opportunity for them! Maeve loved that she could put on her apron and design her own bread piece. Yes it was messy, but she thought it was absolutely hilarious, especially when she got to add the eyes on herself.

Easy recipes for kids are the ones I keep going to again and again, and this isn't limited to just halloween! You can get creative and any other ingredients you want to this pizza - think peppers, mushrooms, onion, pineapple, ham or chicken.

If you're adding these toppings it's a good idea to do the chopping before you get your little ones involved to avoid any risks of them being close to knives. Once they're cut up let them taste and feel each topping and scatter them as they like over their slice.

As these are portioned out already it means you can go wild with seasoning yours and adding chilli if your stomach desires (I love jalapeños on almost everything!!) Recipes for kids shouldn't always have to mean that we miss out on our chilli fix!

- Let them feel each ingredient separately and explain what each one is
- Let them help spread their sauce on and add all the toppings themselves
- Let them taste and smell the ingredients - it's a great opportunity for them to learn about vegetables and they're the perfect size but up for their little hands!

General Rules:
- Always have something on hand for them to play with. It will save lots of mess and frustration. E.g. measuring spoons, measuring jugs.
- I measure my ingredients before hand. I find Maeve enjoys the mixing parts most and gets bored (and therefore destructive) if she isn't getting involved.
- Please always take care when your kids are in the kitchen. We are only providing advice from a mum's point of view and you should never leave children around sharp objects or unattended. Recipes for Kids - Halloween Baking Recipes - Mother and Daughter Matching Outfits

Recipe Cooking with Kids Cooking with Toddlers

INGREDIENTS
- Long rolls/ baguettes (1 roll per adult/ 1 roll per 2 kids)
- Tomato based sauce/ red pesto. (I like this organic one from Seeds of Change)
- Sliced cheese (we like mozzarella because of the way it melts, but you can use vegan cheese to make it vegan!)
- Black olives for the eyes
- Feel free to go wild and add other vegetables or ham/ chicken. I kept it simple for these photos but always love a bit of veg on ours!!

METHOD
1. Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F) or you can use grill - set to medium heat
2. Cut your loaf in half lengthways, then across the width to give you 4 coffin shaped pieces of bread.
3. Place bread into your toaster only for a minute to toast lightly (this step is optional I just prefer doing this for a minute so, so that the bread doesn't go soggy)
4. Spread your sauce onto the bread
5. Slice the olives and add as eyes
6. Slice your cheese thinly and lay across the bread to represent the mummy bandages
7. Place into the oven or under the grill only for a couple of minutes until the cheese has melted.
